The Challenge

As part of structural upgrading works at Genting Highlands, the client planned to strengthen 4 existing columns with corbel beams. Before proceeding, they needed to confirm the internal reinforcement layout of each column to ensure safe and accurate positioning of the anchors and connections.

Our Approach & Result

We carried out a structural assessment using Xradar™ to scan all 4 columns. The scans provided clear imaging of the reinforcement patterns and helped identify safe zones for drilling and beam installation. Our team completed all four scans in less than 2 hours. The data allowed the client to proceed confidently with their strengthening plan while preserving the columns’ integrity.

Upgrading existing structures requires careful planning, especially when working around primary load-bearing elements. Genting Highlands was preparing to strengthen 4 columns with corbel beams as part of a facility improvement project.

But before the corbels could be installed, it was essential to understand the internal reinforcement layout of each column to avoid damaging reinforcements during drilling and to ensure that the load transfer through the new corbel beams would be structurally sound.

Using Xradar™’s enhanced concrete scanning technology, our team assessed all four columns in less than 2 hours. With this data, the client was able to proceed confidently with the strengthening works.
